eLearning Designer / Developer

So you work in L&D, eLearning etc. Have you ever been challenged to create a platform or workshop that is engaging and makes people want to participate? There’s no reward or qualification to be gained and no manager pressuring the user to complete it. Does this sound like a challenge you’re up for? If it is, then keep reading.

We are looking for a creative, eLearning superstar to join our social enterprise on a six-month fixed-term contract initially to help lead the continued design, development and production of Life101’s online platform—the Life101 Launchpad. The aim of the Life101 Launchpad is for all people in society to have access to a foundational level of life and financial skills, so they’re empowered to make positive choices in their lives. Your efforts, experience and skill-set will play a big part in achieving this.

We’re ideally looking for someone with a minimum of 3 years experience in an L&D, instructional design and/or eLearning role, ideally experienced in LMS development and administration, confident using authoring tools such as Articulate, strong attention to detail, innovative and creative, and someone with a passion for writing pick-a-path type scenarios that will leave a teenager eager to find out what happens next…

Typical Responsibilities may include (but not limited to):

  • work with the Project Manager and wider project team to design and develop the core life and financial skills content within the platform; using Life101’s chosen software ‘Elucidat’.
  • design and develop learning materials in various media and delivery methods, e.g. eLearning videos, animations etc.
  • work with the Project Manager and wider project team to design and develop the engaging, pick-a-path type scenarios that allow the learner to test their understanding of the content and understand the consequences of their decisions in real-life situations.
  • wireframe, storyboard and write scenarios.
  • build, refine and test current and future content.
  • build, refine and test current and future content.
  • work with the Project Manager to design and develop the LMS for the Life101 Launchpad.

Other key attributes required for this role are:

  • time management expertise, with the ability to manage multiple and sometimes competing tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
  • a naturally creative writer.
  • it would be a bonus if you have experience in programming skills, such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • passionate about the “greater good”- for participants, whānau, and communities.
  • strong attention to detail.
  • self-confident – a “go-getter”.
  • self-directed and independent.
  • personable, friendly and positive.
  • willingness to both ask and answer stupid questions.
  • roll your sleeves up mindset – we are in the early days of our eLearning journey and need your help!

And the real deal-breaker… if you’re not passionate about what Life101 are doing, or you’re just looking for a ‘job’, or you’re someone who prefers to do things ‘the way everyone else does them’, then this may not be the one for you.

This is a neat and impactful opportunity to join a collaborative and motivated team who’re passionate about their mahi, and their plans for the future with the development of the Life101 Launchpad.

At Life101, we offer comprehensive life and financial skills programmes to people in prisons and on probation, community groups, schools and youth with complex needs. During the past eight years of running in-person programmes, the success we have seen has led us down a path of transforming our in-person programmes into a highly engaging, scenario-based online platform for young people (16-19 y/o). For more information on our mahi and why we do it, go to life101.co.nz

Although this is a six-month fixed-term contract, we are endeavouring for this role to continue and become full-time employment once the platform is live.

Only people with the right to work in New Zealand may apply for this position.
